After AAEA summer meetings, I went with Jeremy Weber for a 4-day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park
After camping Tuesday night at Olive Ridge Campground, on Wednesday morning we went to Wild Basin area to hike to Finch Lake. Total walking time 1st day: 11 miles.
Finch Lake. We reached our destination at 1.30PM, just in time for afternoon showers.
A lot of dead trees on the trail. Given the size of green trees, I would say there was a fire here some 10 years ago.
RMNP is a very organized place. For example, you can rent a horse and a guide for a day trip.
Day 2 (Thursday): Thunder Lake. Elevation - about 10,000' (3000 meters). It was very cloudy and started to rain soon after we arrived. But as they say in Denver: "If you don't like the weather, wait for 5 minutes. It will change."

Longs peak. 4,346.1 meters (14,259 ft).
Tent. The last night. I went to the car around 4.30AM to get warmed up since the inner layer of the tent touched the outer protective layer near my feet (apparently I am too long?), so it all got too wet and cold for comfortable sleep.

This was actually my first "alpinistic" trip.
The first goat wanted some shade. The second wanted it too. The rest had a trade-off: shade at the next car, or keep close. They chose what most humans would too.

In 1942, my grandfather built this small chapel dedicated to St. Theresa of Avil, my guess is it happened just before he went to World War II. This hill in Hvar used to be cultivated all the way to the top back then, with wineyards, lavander fields and olive trees. Now it took my father three days of trekking to locate the chapel, it's all abandoned and reclaimed by weeds and bushes.
